A good race bag means one less thing to think about on race day. Pack it a few days before, and check it the night before. Our interactive race-day checklist has the full list; this is the reasoning behind it.
For racing
- Shoes you have trained in. See how to choose a shoe for HYROX.
- Race clothes: whatever you have trained in. Nothing new.
- Socks, and a spare pair. Tall socks help on the lunges. See socks for hybrid racing.
- Gloves or grip aids, if you use them. See gloves in HYROX.
- Chalk, if allowed at your venue and you use it.
Before the race
- Warm layers: a hoodie or jacket and tracksuit bottoms. You may be waiting a while.
- Breakfast or a snack you have eaten before.
- Water and a sports drink.
- Caffeine, if you use it.
- Headphones for the warm-up, if you like music.
- Ticket, ID and anything the event requires. Check the event email.
During the race
- A gel, if you plan to use one.
- Hair ties or a headband.
- Plasters or tape for hot spots.
After the race
- A change of clothes, including dry socks and underwear.
- Recovery food: something with carbohydrate and protein.
- More water.
- A towel.
- A bag for sweaty kit.
- Comfortable shoes or sliders.
Small things people forget
- Safety pins for a bib, if one is used.
- A padlock for any lockers.
- Phone charger or power bank.
- Payment card for food and drinks.
- Any medication you need.
Travel
If you are travelling, pack your race shoes and clothes in your hand luggage. Luggage gets lost; your shoes should not.
