Team hybrid racing: Tribal Clash and Turf Games compared

Six-person squads, beach arenas and festival days. How Tribal Clash and Turf Games work, how they differ, and how to build a team for them.

Not all hybrid racing is individual. Tribal Clash and Turf Games are built around teams, with changing workouts and a festival atmosphere. The details below come from the organisers’ sites and reports, as listed on our races page.

Tribal Clash

  • Teams: six people, three men and three women.
  • Format: six or seven events over two days, kept secret until race weekend. Events include carries, pulls, runs and swims.
  • Venue: a purpose-built beach arena.
  • Finals: the top teams go through a tug-of-war semi-final to the final.
  • Where: beach venues including the UK, Portugal and Australia.

Turf Games

  • Teams: mixed teams of six.
  • Format: a festival day of team workouts combining strength, conditioning, power and speed. No muscle-ups or heavy Olympic lifting.
  • Other formats: Fittest in the City for teams of four, and Turf ENGINE, a pure endurance race.
  • Divisions: Everyday, Intermediate and Elite.
  • Where: UK festivals in London and Farnborough.
