If you hold a top-30 Elite or top-15 Age Group Mark, watch your inbox: invitation windows run 22 September to 15 October and last three to six days, and a missed window drops you into first-come, first-served. If you missed the cut entirely, the open DEKA STRONG heats in Fort Worth on 12-13 December are listed at US$15-US$55 and US$15-US$70 on Spartan's own portal and need no qualification — but DEKA's claim that they count towards 2027 cannot be checked, because the 2027 criteria do not exist yet.
The 2026 DEKA qualifying season did not run to 30 September, whatever the third-party round-ups say. Per the organiser’s own Worlds page, the final weekend to qualify for the DEKA STRONG and DEKA MILE World Championships was 12-13 September 2026, and the final weekend for DEKA FIT is 26-27 September 2026 — this coming weekend, three days from the date on this article (Spartan DEKA World Championship page, checked 24 September 2026).
That matters because the invitation emails are already going out against the closed MILE and STRONG boards. This is a guide to what DEKA has published, not a report from the floor — I have not been to a DEKA World Championship and am not predicting anything about this one.
What it took to qualify in 2026
Everything below comes from the organiser’s 2026 DEKA World Championships FAQ, read on 24 September 2026. Every athlete at Worlds must hold a qualifying or rolldown spot in their division on the 2026 DEKA Global Leaderboard at the close of the FIT qualifying season.
| Division | Minimum racing requirement | Leaderboard cut |
|---|---|---|
| DEKA FIT Elite | At least one DEKA FIT in an Elite Wave | Top 30 FIT Mark, or rolldown |
| DEKA FIT Age Group | At least one DEKA FIT in an Age Group or Elite Wave | Top 15 Age Group Mark, or rolldown |
| DEKA FIT Teams (Elite) | At least one DEKA FIT Teams Wave | Top 30 overall Teams Mark, or rolldown |
| DEKA MILE Elite | At least one DEKA MILE | Top 30 MILE Mark, or rolldown |
| DEKA MILE Age Group | At least one DEKA MILE | Top 15 Age Group Mark, or rolldown |
| DEKA STRONG Elite | At least one DEKA STRONG | Top 30 STRONG Mark, or rolldown |
| DEKA STRONG Age Group | At least one DEKA STRONG | Top 15 Age Group Mark, or rolldown |
The Elite threshold is the change worth noting: it is top 30 for 2026, against top 15 in the 2025 version of the same FAQ. Age Group, Age Group Team and Ruck all sit on the top-15 track — the FAQ’s invitation schedule groups them together.
An athlete can qualify in one, two or all three DEKA events. And an Elite qualifier in FIT, MILE or STRONG may choose to race either Elite or Age Group: letting the Elite registration window lapse triggers a separate age-group invitation.
DEKA puts the scale of the qualifying circuit at roughly 1,500+ DEKA STRONG and DEKA MILE qualifying events at affiliate gyms and other approved locations between 15 September 2025 and 13 September 2026.
The rolldown calendar, in full
This is the part no single news page lays out. All dates from the 2026 DWC FAQ; acceptance windows close at 11:59PM EST.
| Date (2026) | What happens |
|---|---|
| Sun 13 Sep | Final day of MILE and STRONG qualification |
| Thu 17 Sep | Last day for affiliate events and Road Shows to submit leaderboard corrections |
| Tue 22 Sep | MILE/STRONG Elite and Elite Team invites to the top 30 — window closes Sun 27 Sep |
| Sun 27 Sep | Final day of FIT qualification |
| Tue 29 Sep | MILE/STRONG Elite rolldown to ranks 31-60; thereafter Elite registration is first-come, first-served |
| Thu 1 Oct | MILE/STRONG Age Group, Age Group Team and Ruck invites to the top 15 — window closes Wed 7 Oct. Same day: FIT Elite and Elite Team invites to the top 30 — window closes Sun 4 Oct |
| Tue 6 Oct | FIT Elite rolldown to ranks 31-60 |
| Thu 8 Oct | MILE/STRONG Age Group rolldown to ranks 16-30, then first-come, first-served. Same day: FIT Age Group, Age Group Team and Ruck invites to the top 15 — window closes Wed 14 Oct |
| Thu 15 Oct | FIT Age Group/Team/Ruck rolldown to ranks 16-30 |
Read the windows carefully: the first tier gets three to six days to accept, not a fortnight. And the published tiers are not a floor. After those emails, the FAQ says, “if spots remain open, an email rolldown will take place until all spots are filled. Registration will close the day before the event.” So a rank well outside 60 is not automatically dead — it is just not a reserved place. Athletes who believe they qualified but receive no invitation on the dates above are told to contact CS@deka.fit for registration credentials.
There are no refunds and no transfers on a DEKA World Championship qualifying spot. That is stricter than Spartan’s general ticketing policy, which permits a transfer to another event or racer.
If you are used to the HYROX route to a world championship slot, the difference is that DEKA’s is a single season-long global leaderboard with an emailed rolldown, rather than a time standard plus a national qualifier.
The age cutoff is 30 September — and DEKA’s own help centre disagrees with itself
The DEKA leaderboards page states that “2026 DEKA Season Leaderboards will use your age as of September 30th, 2026 for Age Group rankings”. The DWC FAQ agrees by implication: a 13-year-old top-15 STRONG or MILE qualifier who “turns 14 after September 30th” may still race Worlds in the 12-13 division.
Against that, DEKA’s Youth Division article says the 2026 season ran 16 September 2025 to 15 September 2026 with age taken as of 15 September, and one revision of the Heat Types & Age Groups article says the same, while the current revision of that article says the season runs 1 October to 30 September with age as of 30 September. The sourced line is 30 September 2026, per the leaderboards page and the DWC FAQ; the stale wording elsewhere in the help centre looks like an un-updated page rather than a second rule.
Note that the age date is deliberately later than the 27 September FIT qualifying close.
Divisions at Worlds
Age groups, male and female: 10-11, 12-13, 14-17, 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+.
Teams run adult male, female and co-ed. Two-person categories are Elite plus combined-age bands 59 & Under, 60-79, 80-99, 100-119 and 120+. Four-person categories are Elite plus 119 & Under, 120-159, 160-199, 200-239 and 240+.
Substitutions are allowed within limits: one of two teammates on a 2-person team, up to two of four on a 4-person team (three is not permitted). The athlete being replaced must not be competing in any other division or race at Worlds, and every replacement needs approval from DEKA Head Official Dave Claxton before registration.
There is also a judging obligation. Each athlete must judge one athlete before or after competing in DEKA STRONG and DEKA MILE, and provide 60 minutes of zone judging before or after competing in DEKA FIT.
The four days at Fort Worth Convention Center
The 2026 DEKA World Championship runs 10-13 December at the Fort Worth Convention Center, 1201 Houston St, Fort Worth, TX 76102.
| Date | Race | Access |
|---|---|---|
| Thu 10 Dec | DEKA FIT World Championship — 10 zones with 500m of running before each (5km total) | Invite only |
| Fri 11 Dec | DEKA MILE World Championship — 10 zones with 160m of running before each (one mile total) | Invite only |
| Sat 12 Dec (day) | DEKA STRONG World Championship — 10 zones, no running | Invite only |
| Sat 12 Dec, from 5:00pm | Public DEKA STRONG “Hoedown Throwdown”, 2-person teams | Open to anyone |
| Sun 13 Dec, from 8:00am | Public DEKA STRONG, Age Group individual and 2-person team heats | Open to anyone |
One inconsistency to ignore: the DWC FAQ’s narrative labels 10 December a Friday, 11 December a Saturday and 12 December a Sunday. The Worlds page and the calendar agree that 10 December 2026 is a Thursday. The dates themselves match across both official pages, so go by the dates.
On the championship days, Elite Individual and Elite 2-Person Teams compete for a prize purse; Age Group Individual, Age Group 2-Person Teams and Ruck compete for podium places, with Ruck podium prizes from Titan 6 Actual. Spartan does not publish the purse value on that page, so I am not putting a number on it.
The STRONG format, per the organiser’s event page, is the ten signature zones with no running: 30 RAM alternating reverse lunges, 500m row, 20 box jump/step over, 25 med ball sit-up throws, 500m ski erg, 100m farmer’s carry, 25 cal air bike, 20 dead ball wall overs, 100m tank push/pull, 20 RAM burpees. It is an indoor, gym-floor race from start to finish — the same footwear problem as a flat, stable trainer for sled and carry work, minus the running.
The heats anyone can still enter
Spartan’s own page says the 12-13 December public races “do not require qualification, allowing any athlete from anywhere the world to race” — Saturday night is a 2-person teams showdown, Sunday is Age Group individual and 2-person team heats.
On Spartan’s DEKA US ticketing portal, checked 24 September 2026, the two listings show as price ranges:
| Listing | Published range |
|---|---|
| Fort Worth DEKA STRONG — Saturday 12 December 2026, 5:00pm start | US$15 – US$55 |
| Fort Worth DEKA STRONG — Sunday 13 December 2026, 8:00am start | US$15 – US$70 |
Those are shelf prices on the organiser’s own portal, not a deal or a code. I could not read the per-heat breakdown behind the ranges, so I am not going to publish a single “entry fee”. The US$15 floor is plausibly a spectator ticket and the top figure the racer entry, but that is my inference from the listing, not something the page states. Whether booking fees are added at checkout is also unverified. Spartan separately advertises up to 20% off for US military, law enforcement, firefighters, first responders and government employees.
One claim deserves a caveat. The Worlds page says outright that “Both the Saturday and Sunday public DEKA STRONG heats will serve as 2027 DEKA World Championship qualifiers.” That is DEKA’s own statement, so take it at face value — but the 2027 qualifying criteria and season window are not published anywhere official yet. What a December 2026 STRONG Mark is worth against a 2027 top-30 Elite or top-15 Age Group cut cannot be checked today.
What I could not confirm
Three gaps, stated rather than filled. The hour-by-hour heat schedule is truncated on the official Worlds page at “Saturday DEKA STRONG World Championship Heats Morning:”, so the only start times I can source are the ticketing portal’s 5:00pm Saturday and 8:00am Sunday public openers. The per-heat pricing behind those two ranges is not exposed on the listing I could read. And the 2027 criteria, as above, do not exist publicly.
