ATHX Games takes a different approach from run-and-station races. Instead of one continuous effort, you move through three scored zones, each testing a different quality. The details below come from the organiser’s site, summarised on our races page.

The format

The event runs as a session of around two and a half hours, with three scored zones:

  • Strength — 20 minutes.
  • Endurance — 30 minutes.
  • MetCon X — 30 minutes.

Between them are warm-up, refuel and recovery zones. You are not racing continuously; you are performing three separate tests.

Season-long workouts

The workouts stay the same for a whole season, so every event is comparable. They change for the next season. That means you can train specifically for the workouts once they are announced.

Divisions

ATHX Lite, ATHX and ATHX Pro.

Where it runs

The UK, Ireland, Germany, Spain, Italy, France, Denmark, the Netherlands, Portugal and the US.

How it differs from HYROX

  • Scored zones, not a continuous race.
  • A dedicated strength test.
  • Recovery between zones.
  • Workouts change each season.

Training for it

Refuelling

With recovery zones between efforts, what you eat and drink between zones matters more than in a continuous race. Practise it in training.

Who it suits

Racers who enjoy strength work and want to be tested in more than one way. Those coming from CrossFit may find it familiar. See moving from CrossFit.
